First Lutheran Church played a major role in our childhood. The source of much of my feelings concerning war, businesss, politics and society stem from the basic values that these gentlemen spoke often about in their sermons and conversations with the congregation. If I examine the culture in America using the ideals and lessons from my church, I have to conclude that our leaders are morally bankrupt. The politician who prays in church, but does not apply the lessons to his professional career. The corporate manager whose business decisions are driven purely by profit, orphaned from the values he teaches his children. I think we all do it to some extent. Everywhere I look, personal convictions divorced from professional convictions. I wonder what they think about a member of their congregation going to war for them.
